Cortical Vision Prosthesis - FPGA Prototype for Image Data Transmission

David Inguanti

The foundation for image transmission within the “Cortical Vision Prosthesis” project (Monash Vision Group).

The project aims to establish a foundation for reliable communication between an input image source and a pocket processor within the Cortical Vision Prosthesis apparatus. Image data is saved to local memory in a simulated transmitter, then converted to a Low-Voltage Differential Signalling (LVDS) format for transmission.
Image processing and transmission are simulated through a singular FPGA development board and the received data is displayed via HDMI on an output monitor. Emphasis is placed on ensuring a modular software architecture, as the project will set the foundations for future versions of the prototype.
