Pure Solar Bicycle

James Gruber & Ayush Tarway

Guinness World Record Attempt!

We have designed and constructed a Solar Powered Bicycle with the aim of setting the speed record for the "Fastest Solar Powered Bicycle" in the Guinness World Records. Our design includes a custom-built modular solar frame and a novel approach to Maximum Power Point Tracking for our electric design.

The Solar Bicycle uses a Battery-less design and instead uses Solar Power in real-time to power it's 1000W brushless DC Motor. Three 330W Solar Panels are housed on a custom-built frame that is entirely made from scrap aluminium.

The design of the bike frame is modular, i.e the bike can be easily packed down to the size of a regular commuter bike to make it easier for transportation.

A Bluetooth interface is used to monitor the performance parameters of the bike in real-time by the the rider. The Bluetooth functionality can also be used to toggle between pre-built modes with different riding experiences from self-throttling to user-throttled.
